COMPTON HEIGHTS

THE FEEL

With rounded arches and turrets adorning many mini-castle style homes, the architecture found in this neighborhood are remnants of past affluent German residents.

But Compton heights has certainly become more cosmopolitan since then, welcoming homebuyers of all types. Throughout the years, the neighborhood has become increasingly diverse. Around 20 percent of the population identify as gay and lesbian.

HISTORY

Established in 1889, Compton Heights is one of the city’s first housing developments. Named for the Compton Heights Reservoir Park, the neighborhood became a historic district in 1978.

ACCESSIBILITY

Compton Heights boundaries extend from Grand to California avenues. Near major interstates 44, 55, and 64, it’s easy to head east into the city or west for a change of pace.

CULTURE

Like nature, art is never too far away in Compton Heights. Housing the Grand Arts Center, with institutions like Fox Theater and Powell Symphony Hall, big town shows and bands always make appearances in the neighborhood.

ENTERTAINMENT

Local grocers, bars, and restaurants can all be found along the South Grand Business District. Although near to main attractions like Busch Stadium and the Missouri Botanical Gardens, a fun Friday night can be had right around the corner. 

SCHOOLS

Compton Heights is part of the St. Louis School District. There are more than 20 schools found within the neighborhood borders.

Compton Hill Reservoir Park

Spanning 35.8 acres, this park features the historic Compton Hill Water Tower and the famous 'The Naked Truth' statue, combining rich history with scenic views.

Tower Grove Park

A vast 289-acre park offering a variety of recreational facilities including tennis courts, baseball fields, and extensive biking and running trails, catering to a wide range of activities for all visitors.
